Private Voice, Piano & composition lessons

My Philosophy

Outside of my scoring work, I am passionate about sharing my experience and skills with a new generation of musicians. As a private teacher, I am committed to working together with students of all ages and skill levels to help them achieve their goals, whether they want to be hobby musicians or go pro. I believe music is intrinsic to our humanity, and my teaching philosophy is based ultimately on the joy that comes from taking pride in one's hard work and dedication to their craft.

My joy of vocal performance extends to all genres, and I am happy to work with my students in a variety of styles.

Likewise, through composition and songwriting lessons, my goal is to help students find and harness their creativity and use it to effectively write the music they want to write. I am trained in classical composition techniques as well as jazz, film scoring, and songwriting, and believe a well-rounded education is the key to unlocking your writing potential.

Studio Policies

Payment

Payment is due no later than the first lesson of the month for the entirety of the month's lessons. If payment is not received by the end of the first lesson, lessons will be suspended until tuition is paid. Students will receive invoices via Paypal where payments can be made, but exceptions can be made if Zelle, Venmo, or a personal check are preferred. This policy ensures that I am compensated for my time and expertise, as well as reserving the student's lesson time. If lessons are suspended due to lack of payment, the lesson time will be forfeited and become available to other students.

Lessons are paid in accordance with how many weeks are in a given month and typically range from 4-5 weeks worth of lessons. I observe all major holidays, including Easter, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day-- in December, most students take off the last two weeks for winter break and the holidays, so generally I will only teach 3 lessons that month.

Cancellation Policy

Lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours notice will be rescheduled; any lessons cancelled without 24 hours notice will not be rescheduled or refunded. No refund will be given for absences or tardiness. Students who are late are entitled to any amount of time remaining in their lesson. Once a lesson has been rescheduled, it cannot be rescheduled again.

Teacher Missed Lessons

If I have to miss or reschedule a lesson, I will reschedule it at the student's convenience. If the lesson cannot be made-up/rescheduled, it will be credited toward the next month's bill.

Practice

All musicians can only improve with practice-- young children usually need some structured practice time guided by their parents. Please ensure your young musician is practicing in between lessons, as well as a space where they feel safe and free to do so. Regular practice is essential to making progress!

Communication

I value an open communication between myself, students, and parents. I'm committed to keeping parents on the same page as far as lesson progress and goals go. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns. Molding a young person into a musician and artist is a team effort!

Cancelling Lessons

My hope is that music lessons will be a positive experience from the beginning to the end-- there are many reasons people may stop taking lessons, and I will never take it personally! Please give me at least two weeks notice before the beginning of the next billing cycle if you plan on cancelling lessons. This gives me and other prospective students an opportunity to fill your lesson time.
